CALL TO ACTION: Abbott to Call Special Session!

The Texas Tribune broke the news yesterday that Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick's feud with Speaker Joe Straus is at a stalemate. Patrick said at a press conference, "Tonight, I’m making it very clear, Governor: I want you to call us back on your time." A statement like this from the Lt. Gov. is nothing short of a special session becoming immanent, which gives us a great opportunity.

As you are aware, HB375 was killed by Phil King last month when he tabled it in committee despite thousands of Texans calling his office regularly. It's time to put that pressure on Gov. Abbott. Per the Texas Constitution, during a special session, no legislation shall be undertaken other than that specified in the Governor's proclamation. This means that we need to demand that he place Constitutional Carry in his proclamation for a special session.

Below, I have written up a template email for you to send to the Governor demanding Constitutional Carry. That said, phone calls work exponentially better, and we would prefer that you use both methods to really help us make a statement. It's rally time! Let's remind the Governor that he is up for reelection next year and that We The People demand Constitutional Carry! Not the watered down HB1911 version, but REAL Constitutional Carry!

Gov. Abbott,

I am writing you today in regards to the call of a special session of the Legislature. On May 26, you signed SB16 into law, which lowered the tax on our right to bear arms from $140 to $40, during which you said, "Texans' ability to bear arms is going to be even bolder today than it's ever been before." While this is greatly appreciated by every Texan, it is still an unconstitutional tax on our right to bear arms. SB16 is NOT an acceptable substitute for Constitutional Carry.

I am respectfully demanding that you place the following into your Proclamation for a special session of the Legislature:

"To consider legislation relating to providing for the carrying of handguns without a license and to related offenses and penalties."

This legislation should fully return the right to bear arms to anyone in the State of Texas who is legally able to possess a firearm, and they shall not be required to obtain permission from the State of Texas. The right to bear arms is a right, not a privilege. Ignoring this message or signing a bill that does anything short of this is unacceptable.

As of this date, 14 other States have enacted Constitutional Carry. Texas ranks 26th for most pro-2nd Amendment States in the US. We should be leading on the issue of gun rights, but we are trailing far behind! This is embarrassing and you have the power to correct it.

Gov. Abbott, I hope to be proud  to vote for your reelection in November of  2018, and nothing would make me prouder than to remember that you were responsible for having Constitutional Carry enacted across  the great State of Texas.

Share this post on social media and help spread the word! Only together can we apply the pressure and get Gov. Abbott to call a special session!
